MTN Irancell operates on GSM 900/1800 and is the first network operator in Iran which provides GPRS and MMS services and will let subscribers choose their desired number (as on July 2010) from between +989350000000 to +989399999999. After February 2012, they added these numbers +989300000000 to +989319999999.
Irancell is a private joint stock company governed by the Commercial Code of the Islamic Republic of Iran as amended in the year 1347 of the Iranian calendar, which is 1969 in the Gregorian calendar, and the provisions of its Articles of Association. The company’s registration date is 14 August 2005 [1385/05/23] and the registration number 252949.[citation needed]
Shareholders - MTN Irancell has two shareholders: Iran Electronic Development Company (IEDC) (51%), and MTN International (Mauritius) Limited (49%). - IEDC currently has two key shareholders: Mostazafan Foundation, a Bonyad and Iran Electronics Industries (IEI), known as SAIRAN (company with military contracts)

Shareholders Agreement was signed between IEDC and MTN in November 2005 and the second mobile operator license was awarded to Irancell on 27 November 2005 [1384/09/06] by *MCIT/CRA.
Huawei (China), Ericsson (Sweden) and Nokia (Finland), are providing the infrastructure for IranCell, in partnership with local companies in six defined regions.[2]
WiMAX - Irancell began their WiMAX internet services in major cities of Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, Tabriz, Mashhad, Karaj and Ahvaz. Irancell can providethe service only in a limited of provinces because it is not a nationwide WiMAX operator. The only nationwide operator is Mobinnet which currently offers WiMAX internet services to subscribers from more than 130 cities in all 31 provinces. WiMAX subscribers can choose between Prepaid and Post Paid subscriptions. The costs can be paid through MTN-Irancell voucher cards or Credit Cards. Maximum bandwidth provided by Irancell's WIMAX internet, is limited to 2Mbit/s for about $100/mo,cheapest 2Mbit/s unlimited Internet connection fee in the country. Due to Iranian law, home users are not allowed to access bandwidths more than 128kbit/s.[citation needed] The same law applies to wimax service where home users can only choose between 64kbit/s and 128kbit/s services.
